SEREMBAN: Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars in Negri Sembilan will be closed for three days if traders or patrons violate Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic).
The Mentri Besar said this was necessary to keep the number of cases low.
“We have instructed all local authorities to take necessary action if any of the traders or customers flouted the SOPs.
“Until now, we have been issuing warnings but after this, we will take stern action,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri on Wednesday (April 21).
There are 62 Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars in the state.
Aminuddin said he has received reports that some parents had failed to put on masks for their children when they went shopping at the bazaars.
“We actually discourage parents from taking their children to the Ramadan bazaars as there is no necessity for this.
“But if you have to take them, please follow the SOPs,” he said, adding that patrons must treat this seriously, as failure to adhere to the SOPs can affect the traders’ livelihoods.
He said only those who wished to buy food or other items such as clothing for the coming Hari Raya should patronise these bazaars.
Those who had nothing to buy should stay away so that there was no overcrowding.
He also told parents that they need not take all their children when they go to Aidilfitri bazaars to shop for Hari Raya clothes.
As of April 20, 18,023 cases have been reported in the state resulting in 31 deaths.
A total of 400 patients are still being treated for Covid-19 at various hospitals as well.
