Six women among eight suspects nabbed for illegal gambling during police raids in Kepala Batas

KEPALA BATAS: Eight suspects were arrested after police raided eight illegal gambling premises in the span of two days here.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the suspects, including six women, were detained during the two-day Ops Dadu Khas that was conducted by a team from the district police headquarters from April 17.

"A total of 37 premises were marked but we only succeeded in raiding eight premises after the gambling activities were found to have been moved to another place at the remaining premises, ” he said during a press conference at the North Seberang Prai police headquarters on Monday (April 19).

ACP Noorzainy said police believed that illegal gambling operators have a new modus operandi due to police’s constant operation in crippling illegal gambling activities in the district.

He said during the police operations, a total of RM698 in cash was seized and the suspects have been remanded to facilitate investigations.

The case will be investigated under Section 4 (A) (a) and Section 4 (1) (c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

He added that since last year, action has been taken against 65 illegal gambling premises by disconnecting their electricity supply.
