Two Singaporeans among 15 suspects arrested for illegal gambling in JB

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Some 15 suspects, including two Singaporeans, have been arrested in a shop here for illegal gambling.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects, aged between 30 and 78, were arrested during a raid at about 9pm on Thursday (April 15) in Taman Damai Jaya following a tip-off.

"The suspects were sitting around several tables and believed to be playing mahjong when the police arrived at the location.

"The person renting the shop has also been arrested for further investigation," he said in a statement on Friday (April 16).

He said all the suspects were unemployed and had no criminal records.

"Several items have also been seized.

"This includes four mahjong tables, 10 chairs, 220 mahjong tiles, pieces of papers believed to have contribution records, six dice, two keys to the shophouse, a white board, mahjong chips and cash worth RM1,752," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

"All of the suspects have been released with police bail," he added.
