MELAKA: The state government will provide help to a factory technician after his family’s ancestral home was destroyed in a fire, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali (pic).
The house belonging to Sulaiman Kaus, 42, in Kampung Durian Daun, Masjid Tanah, was destroyed in a fire early yesterday.
Sulaiman, who paid a visit to the victim, added that he would ask the Melaka Housing Board to construct a three-bedroom house for his family.
He also instructed the Alor Gajah Municipal Council, Welfare Department and relevant agencies to provide assistance to the victim.
In the 3am blaze, Sulaiman sustained minor burns when he tried to save his mother-in-law Norisah Tahir, 79, wife Siti Faismah Basir, 42, and three children, aged between four and six.
The family lost all their belongings as well as new clothes that were bought for celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri next month.
Fortunately, Sulaiman managed to save important identification documents from the blaze.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Soon We Kiang said firemen from the Alor Gajah fire station faced difficulty at the scene because the nearest fire hydrant was situated quite a distance from the house.
