Man jumps off Penang Bridge to rescue wife

GEORGE TOWN: A man leapt into the sea to save his wife after she fell off the Penang Bridge.

The state Fire and Rescue Department said the incident took place at around 4.40pm on Friday (April 16).

"It took place on the island-bound side of the bridge at around 1km from the island.

"We found that the woman has fallen into the sea.

"She was rescued and taken by her husband to the pillar of the bridge before we arrived at the scene.

"Our team then went down to the pillar using the rappelling method to persuade and calm the woman.

"The couple were then rescued and taken by boat," said the department in a statement.

A boy, believed to be the couple's son, was seen waiting by the bridge during the incident
