Two seriously injured in Kota Belud house fire

KOTA KINABALU: Two people were seriously injured in a fire at Kampung Ijuk Bobot in Kota Belud on Wednesday (April 14) night.

The victims are Sabran Sibun, 43, sustained 90% burns on his body while Raini Jelikum, 61, sustained 40% burns following the 7.30pm fire.

Another person, Nur Aqilah Wan Othman, 23, who was also at the house when the fire broke out, escaped with no injuries.

According to state Fire and Rescue Department officials, the fire started from a hut used as a storeroom beside the semi-concrete house.

It is believed that a short circuit occurred due to a socket and supply overload.

Both victims were taken to the hospital by their neighbours following the fire.

Firemen received a distress call at about 7.50pm and arrived at the scene at about 8pm, together with other rescue personnel.

The fire was brought under control at 8.59pm and operations ceased at 9.38pm.

Meanwhile in another fire, the quick action of residents to use their fire extinguisher in a house at Kg Gentisan, Sepanggar near here saved the structure from being totally destroyed.

The 6.29pm fire started in a room and was brought under control and eventually put out before firemen arrived about half an hour later.

No injuries were recorded in this incident.
