SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says Datuk Seri Azmin Ali must “really know” the workings of audio and video technology for him to confidently claim that the voice in an audio recording which went viral last week belongs to the PKR president.
“Let it be. That’s his opinion. Azmin is smart when it comes to (the workings) of videos and audios.
“My statement may be brief but it has a profound meaning, ” he told reporters at a ceremony to welcome new members comprising former lecturers, academics and scholars into PKR here yesterday.
Anwar refused to say more when pressed if he was referring to a videoclip of a sex act which allegedly involved Azmin two years ago.He was asked to comment on Azmin who claimed on Sunday that Anwar was one of the two individuals talking in the audio clip.
Azmin said he knew the voice of his former boss well as he had served as his officer and private secretary for decades.
The clip, which went viral on April 7, was a conversation between two voices sounding like Anwar and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, where the Umno president’s performance at the recent Umno annual general assembly was discussed.
The conversation also revealed there was a need to hold an extraordinary Umno supreme council meeting to mandate the president to enable him to make a decision to leave the Perikatan Nasional government.
Both Ahmad Zahid and Anwar have since said they would ask their officers to lodge police reports on the clip, claiming it was a political conspiracy against them.
Earlier, during the event, Anwar welcomed the new PKR members, among whom was former Syariah High Court judge Datuk Baharum Hasbullah.
