Woman, 60, escapes after being abducted and robbed outside KK sundry shop

KOTA KINABALU: Police are hunting for two men who allegedly abducted and robbed an elderly woman of her car and possessions at Cyber City near here on Saturday (April 10) night.

Acting Kota Kinabalu OCPD Supt George Rakman said the 60-year-old victim had just exited a sundry shop and entered her car at about 7.30pm when a man appeared in the back passenger seat.

The man allegedly ordered her to move to the back seat while another person got into the driver's seat and drove them off.

He said the victim was asked to keep her head low and to crouch behind the back seat while they drove for about an hour.

“She was asked to surrender all her money and jewellery, ” he said when contacted.

Supt George said about an hour into the ride, the victim begged for the two men to let her sit up as her back was hurting.

After being allowed to sit properly, she took the opportunity to open the car door and jump out of it, he added.

“The woman was rescued by passers-by after she jumped out of the moving vehicle, ” Supt George said, adding that she found herself in the Papar district some 32km away from where she was abducted.

The woman escaped unhurt but lost about RM17,000 in the incident.

The police are calling on the public to provide information on the incident and to contact the investigating officer at 013-2618487 to facilitate investigations.

This case is being investigated under gang robbery.
