Cops arrest 60 drug addicts in several raids in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: Police have arrested 60 people, believed to be drug addicts on Friday (April 9) in an operation dubbed as Ops Sarang 4.0.

Langkawi OCPD Asst Comm Shariman Ashari said the individuals, aged between 17 and 52, were detained in an operation conducted by the Langkawi and Kedah police.

"Several drug dens in Bukit Malut, Kelibang, Taman Nilam, Pulu Tuba and several other hotspots in the island were raided by police during the operation," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 11).

ACP Shariman said various drugs used by the addicts were also confiscated during the operation.

He said the drugs were 95.73g of heroin weighing and 7.92g of syabu worth around RM4,300 in total.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39B, 39A, 12(2), and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
