Bunny farm boss begins sky bike centre in Ranau

KOTA KINABALU: Adventure lovers are in for a treat with the opening of Sabah’s first sky bike centre in Ranau district.

This centre - Mont K Skybike - located in Kg Kigiok, Ranau, is a place where one can ride a bicycle up in the air - with suspensions of course.

The operator of this place, Wong Ko Siong, 55, said he came up with the idea of setting Mont K Skybike after seeing similar activities offered in Langkawi and other countries.

“I want to offer visitors here something different, something challenging yet doable,” he said when contacted.

He said as there are quite a number of flying fox related activities and even paragliding available, he wanted to come up with something a bit different.

“And after discussions with partners and professionals, I decided on opening Skybike,” said Wong, who is ironically not a huge fan of such activities.

He said as a tour operator, it is not what activity he prefers that matters but what the people want that counts, hence the opening of this place.

“I am also a rabbit farm owner and visitors can come and see these furry animals if they do not wish to go up the Skybike,” he said.

Wong said the distance for a ride 30m above ground level is 100m each way and there are only two bikes available for starters.

It was opened to the public on Saturday (April 10), and the first 100 people to visit and try out this activity will get special rates.

He is confident that with strict SOPs in place, visitors who learn about this place will come and try it out.
