S’wak surge sees more areas under EMCO

PETALING JAYA: Two more localities in Sarawak will come under the enhanced movement control order after a recent surge in Covid-19 cases there.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 289 cases had been detected at the Sri Aman prison and five cases in Kampung Serpan Laut.

The enhanced MCO in both areas would end on April 21, he said, while the enhanced MCO in Kampung Batu Gong in Sarawak had been extended.

“The Health Ministry confirms that the spread of infections is still occurring in the locality, with new cases being discovered.

“As such, it was agreed that the enhanced MCO there (in Kampung Batu Gong) will be extended until April 23, ” he said in his daily briefing yesterday.

Meanwhile, the enhanced MCO in Kampung Lebak Moyoh and Kampung Siasai Tamu in Kota Belud, Sabah, will end on schedule today.

Ismail Sabri said 88 people were issued compounds and four people were remanded on Tuesday for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedure, while 43 illegal immigrants were arrested as part of Ops Benteng.

“Some 153 boats were detected in our waters in 11 surveillance operations, ” he added.
