PETALING JAYA: Two Romanian crew members of a bulk carrier suffered burns following exposure to fuel oil while on duty in the engine room of the MV Rapallo.

“The crew members had been taken to the Port Dickson Hospital for further treatment and were now transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ” said the Malaysian Marine Department in a statement on Thursday (Apr 8).

It added that the cause of the accident involving the Malta-registered vessel is still being investigated.

The Department said that the vessel is still at the Jimah Energy Ventures (JEV) Terminal in Port Dickson to unload its cargo and would dock on Thursday.

According to the statement, a team of investigators from the department’s central region office in Port Dickson and Port Klang has been set up and all the stipulated procedures to curb the spread of Covid-19 would be complied with throughout the investigation process.
