SEREMBAN: Police have crippled another electricity theft syndicate led by bitcoin mining operators following the seizure of 300 machines in an operation in Seremban 2.
District deputy police chief Supt Mohd Rosli Ishak said three suspects aged between 28 and 66 were detained in a raid on three business outlets at around 2pm last Sunday.
The machines were worth some RM600,000.
“Based on estimates, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has been losing some RM75,000 a month from this illegal operation, ” he added.
The case is being investigated under Sections 379 and 427 of the Penal Code for electricity theft and causing mischief to TNB properties.
Supt Mohd Rosli said police were still investigating to determine how long the syndicate had been operating.
On March 23, state police scored a victory against such activities in Negri Sembilan following the seizure of 581 machines in several raids in Nilai.
