PETALING JAYA: Two areas in Sarawak will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (MCO) from Sunday (April 4) to April 17, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister (Security) said the government had made the decision to lockdown Kampung Binyu Baru in Samarahan and Kampung Binyu Lama in Kuching, Sarawak after a rapid increase of cases.

He said the infectivity rate in the community was also high.

"The enforcement of the enhanced MCO will make it easier to curb the spread of Covid-19 effectively and to stop any form of local transmission," he said in a statement on Saturday (April 3).

As of Saturday, he said the Health Ministry had conducted a total of 11 Covid-19 screening tests at Kampung Binyu Baru where four people tested positive.

"After conducting a risk assessment with various other agencies, and upon the advice of the Health Ministry, the government agreed to implement the enhanced MCO there," he said.

Meanwhile, he said the Health Ministry detected a sudden hike of cases at Kampung Binyu Lama where a total of 57 positive cases had been recorded since April 1.
