Sabah car crash leaves four kids orphaned

KOTA KINABALU: Four children were orphaned after their parents and sibling were killed in an accident.

Papar OCPD Deputy Supt Batholomew Umpit said that in the Wednesday night accident, the victims were in a car carrier truck heading towards Kota Kinabalu.

“They were all from Keningau and were going to Kota Kinabalu to repair their car, ” he said, adding that the accident happened along the Kimanis-Keningau road at 10pm.

The couple’s three daughters and a son, who survived with injuries, are aged between four and 15.

They are receiving treatment at the Papar hospital.

It is learnt that the father, who was also the driver, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a hill slope.

“The mother and a daughter were flung out of the truck while he was pinned to his seat, ” DSP Batholomew said.

They were pronounced dead at the scene when rescuers arrived.

Fire and Rescue personnel managed to free the other trapped children and rushed them to the hospital.

“The survivors are in stable condition and are under doctor’s supervision, ” said DSP Batholomew.
