Man dies on way to hospital after being involved in traffic accident

BALIK PULAU: A 30-year-old self-employed man from Bayan Lepas died on the way to the hospital after he was involved in an accident.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said the accident involving three cars and a motorcycle happened at around 2.50pm Thursday (April 1) at the Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Jalan Tengah intersection here.

"Preliminary investigations at the scene found that the accident occurred when the car driven by the victim hit the back of two other cars and a motorcycle which were stopped at the traffic light intersection.

"The victim suffered severe injuries at the scene while the rest had light injuries.

"All the victims were sent to Penang Hospital for treatment.

"At around 4.10pm, we received a notification from the Penang Hospital that the victim had died on the way there.

"A post-mortem examination will be performed after Covid-19 swab test results are obtained," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 1).

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
