Perikatan Youth chief denies coalition is in cahoots with Opposition MPs

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki should stop talking about principles when still bound to kleptocrats, says Perikatan Nasional Youth information chief Muhammad Hilman Idham (pic).

"Perikatan Nasional Youth advises the Umno Youth chief to wake up and face the reality of the world.

"There is no point spinning principles if still bound and a slave to kleptocrats," he said in a statement issued on Sunday (March 28).

Muhammad Hilman said Perikatan Youth strongly condemns the accusations made by Asyraf against Perikatan's leadership and administration.

Referring to Asyraf's accusation that Opposition MPs were in cahoots with Perikatan, he said the Perikatan administration under Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had shown sincerity in defending the people's welfare since it took the helm more than a year ago.

Despite various efforts to destabilise the government, he said it remained focused on implementing initiatives such as Perihatin, Penjana. Kitaperihatin, Permai and Pemerkasa to strengthen support for the people, which had also received Opposition support.

Muhammad pointed to Perikatan's achievements such as approving 4,599 projects worth RM164bil in the manufacturing, services and main sectors while achieving a record trade surplus.

"Trade surplus recorded in 2020 was the highest in the nation's global trading record.

"Trade surplus increased by 26.9% to RM184.7bil if compared to 2019," he added.

He said Perikatan Youth was confident that the government's New Investment Policy would be a catalyst for growth to develop the nation over the next five years.

During his policy speech at the Umno Youth wing assembly on Saturday (March 27), Asyraf had called on members to reject “hypocrites” who have forgotten the party’s struggles in the next party polls.

Aysraf also wanted the Perikatan government to drop all the policies introduced during the previous Pakatan Harapan government.

He asked why Pakatan policies were still around despite Perikatan touting itself as an agent of change.
