Covid-19 patient arrested after nurse lodges molest report

KEPALA BATAS: A Covid-19 patient formerly warded at Kepala Batas Hospital here was arrested for allegedly molesting a nurse who was treating him.

The 55-year-old man was detained at his house here on Monday (March 15) after the victim lodged a police report at about 3.45pm the same day, North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said in a statement on Thursday (March 18).

He said the incident occured on March 8 when the nurse was on her morning shift conducting tests on the suspect at ward 3B of the hospital.

When she was holding the suspect's hand to conduct the tests, he allegedly held and rubbed the victim's fingers and asked her in a soft tone "Sedap tak?" (Is it nice?)

The shocked nurse tried to pull her hand away, but the man continued to hold on to it. However, she managed to get away from the suspect.

ACP Noorzainy said an investigation paper has been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor's office and the suspect is expected to be charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code for sexual harassment.

"The suspect will be brought to the Butterworth Court Complex tomorrow (March 19)," he said.
