Vietnamese gambling syndicate busted in Subang

SUBANG JAYA: An online gambling syndicate targeting Vietnamese players has been busted here.

Two raids were conducted at Subang Avenue, SS16, by district police following intelligence gathered.

"Two units were raided, one on the sixth floor and the other on the 11th floor. Seven Vietnamese nationals were arrested in the raid today," said Subang Jaya deputy OCPD Supt Amihizam Abdul Shukor during a press conference at the district police headquarters Wednesday (March 17).

He added that the group targeted gamblers in Vietnam and that they had been operating for around three months.

Supt Amihizan noted that it was rare for a group catering Vietnamese gamblers to be operating here.

"When we got the intel, we had to confirm that there was gambling involved hence the reason why we had a forensics team with us during the raid. We believe that there are Malaysians involved in the group because they had to have sourced their equipment and help from here.

"We will liase with Interpol and their embassy on this matter," he said.

He said its was hard to estimate the sums of money involved as the group's targets were outside the country.

Several of the suspects did not have their passports with them during the raid, he added.

All suspects, aged from 25 to 40 years old, will be remanded on Thursday (March 18).
