Covid-19: 1,280 new cases, nine deaths bring death toll to 1,186

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,280 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (March 9), the fourth straight day daily cases dipped below the 2,000 mark, bringing total cases to 316,269, says the Health Ministry.

Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor continues to record the highest cases with 464 cases.

Of the 1,280 new cases, 1,278 cases were locally transmitted, while two were imported cases.

Selangor, Dr Noor Hisham said, continued to record the highest cases in the country at 464 cases.

"Of this total, 368 cases were from the clusters and from the active Covid-19 close contact screening that is being conducted on the field.

"This is followed by Johor at 165 cases, and Sarawak at 163 cases," he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 9).

The country also discharged 2,345 Covid-19 patients, bringing the cumulative discharge cases to 296,379.

Active Covid-19 infections in the country now stands at 18,704 cases.

Currently, 155 patients are in intensive care, with 76 requiring ventilator support.

Nine deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll to 1,186 cases.
