Seven motorcycles destroyed, six damaged in early morning fire

GEORGE TOWN: A total of 13 motorcycles parked at Blok B of the Pinang Emas Flats in Batu Ferringhi were damaged in an early morning fire Saturday (March 6).

A Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department received a distress call at 3.26am and a team of firemen from the Bagan Jermal fire station was deployed to help.

"Seven of the motorcycles were totally destroyed while the remaining motorcycles only suffered minimal damage," he said in a statement Saturday.

The spokesman said a car parked near the scene was also partly damaged in the incident.

He said residents of the flat who were at the scene doused the fire that razed the parking lot before the arrival of firemen.

He added that the firemen conducted thorough checks to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.

The operation ended at about 4.45am and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and total losses are still being investigated.
