JOHOR BARU: A 43-year-old man shot dead his wife at close range while she was asleep.
Police believe the murder took place after a fight.
He was suspected to have used an air rifle on his wife of eight years while she was asleep at their home in Taman Saujana, Kota Tinggi at around 2am on Monday, said Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Investigations showed the couple were in the midst of a separation and that jealousy could have been a motive for the murder.
The couple have two children under the care of the wife’s family.
Another 32-year-old man was also nabbed. Both men are remanded until March 10 to help with investigations for murder.
Comm Ayob said the husband spoke about shooting the woman, who worked as a clerk.
After the incident, the suspect is believed to have wrapped the body in a bedsheet and kept it inside a blue plastic barrel.
“The husband, with the help of the other man, buried the barrel in a field in Bandar Penawar, ” he added.
On Thursday morning, Comm Ayob said the husband led police to where he had buried the victim.
Comm Ayob said police seized an air rifle, a shotgun, 54 buckshot pellets, a sports utility vehicle, and an excavator that belongs to the main suspect.
