Penang state awards ceremony slated for March 17 and 18 with strict Covid-19 SOP

GEORGE TOWN: After several postponements, the state Investiture Ceremony 2020 to mark the 82nd birthday of Yang diPertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas will be held on March 17 and 18 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre.

A statement from the state Speaker's Office said the ceremony will be limited to recipients of the state’s highest awards, with guests by invitation only as a measure to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

"Recipients, guests and secretariat staff must undergo Covid-19 tests before attending the ceremony and no lunch will be served at the event," said the statement, issued on Friday (March 5).

The ceremony for the state's highest awards would be held from 8.30am to 12.30pm on each of the two days.

"The Yang diPertua Negeri has agreed that the awards for other categories of recipients - DJN, BCN, PKT, PJK, PBS and PJM - will be held from March 10 to 12 from 8.30am to 5.30pm at Dewan Sri Pinang," the statement added.
