MELAKA: Sixteen illegal immigrants at two squatters on Jalan Pulau Senang and Jalan Bunga Raya in Semambok here were detained by the Melaka Immigration Department.
State Immigration Department deputy director K. Vishnutharan said those detained were aged between 25 and 45, including six women.
“We also checked 145 foreigners including 32 women and 28 children during the raid on Wednesday night (March 3),” he said on Thursday (March 4).
He said the raid with enforcement from various enforcement agencies was conducted after public complaints on the influx of foreign workers.
Vishnutharan said the illegals paid between RM250 and RM300 to rent at the squatters and had been living there for the past few years.
