PUTRAJAYA: Some 7,000 firemen on frontliner duty will be vaccinated in the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, says Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.
She said vaccination of the firemen will begin this Friday (March 5) and will be done in stages.
"Fire and Rescue Services Department director-general Datuk Seri Muhammad Hamdan Wahid and I will also be getting our vaccination jabs on that day," she told reporters after launching National Landscape Day 2021 on Tuesday (March 2).
There are 14,000 fire and rescue personnel nationwide.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme was launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Feb 24, when he became the first person in the country to be vaccinated.
The government is targeting 80% of the population to be vaccinated.
