A FEW Tamil NGOs have called for those with Tamil language education backgrounds to be appointed to ministerial and special officer positions, Makkal Osai reported.
Tamilar Ezhuchi Maiyam Sungoi Buloh branch coordinator MBV Tamilakaran and Malaysia Tamilar Seyarkuzhu chairman A. Selvaraj said there was a need to have a deputy education minister to address Tamil school and Tamil education issues.
They said the person holding this position needed to have a background in Tamil education, so as to have an appreciation for the language and its literary traditions.
Sungai Siput SJK (T) Mahathma Gandhi Kalasalai former pupil and Ipoh Kurinchittu Tamil Kazhagam chairman Prabu Krishnan said the same should apply to those being appointed as minister’s advisers or special officers.
Malaysia Tamil Samaya Peravai coordinator Ananatha Tamizhan and Kampar Tamil Vizhippunarvu Iyakkam chairman Thinakaran Maniam said government positions should be filled by those who can serve the public.
