Six youngsters detained for riding ‘basikal lajak’ in JB

JOHOR BARU: The police have detained six youngsters for riding “basikal lajak”, or modified bicycles at Taman Desa Tebrau here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain said the boys, aged between 12 and 16, were arrested at about 3pm on Friday (Feb 26) at Jalan Harmonium Taman Desa Tebrau by traffic police.

"They were arrested for riding modified bicycles that also do not have breaks or bells.

"The police have also seized their bicycles under Section 112(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and a total of 10 fines were also issued," he said in a statement here on Friday.

He added their parents were also summoned to the police station before the youngsters were allowed to return home.

"Their parents were called to the police station for documentation purposes.

"Their parents were also advised to be more alert about their children's activities and whereabouts when they are outside," he said.

He added that the police would continue to monitor “basikal lajak” activities to curb the problem.
