Ismail Sabri to Malays: Stand united to face 15th General Election

PETALING JAYA: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob called on the Malays to unite as GE15 could be around the corner, citing the frayed ties between Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional.

He said although racial diversity was a unique aspect of the country, this and the issue of Malay rights were disrupted during the previous Pakatan Harapan administration.

“How can we forget what Pakatan did during its leadership, when foreign investors began to pull out? I want to stress how important it is for the Malays to unite to face a challenging political world. Like it or not, GE15 is just around the corner, ” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ismail Sabri also said Umno must strengthen itself and ensure it was no longer divided, and called on the party to learn from its mistakes which caused it to lose in GE14.

“It is not wrong for us to admit our mistakes and learn from it for us to rebuild the party. It is division that will cause the Malay race to be weakened and (lead to a) repeat of Pakatan’s 22-month administration, ” he said.

Other races, he said, did not have to be afraid of Umno and Barisan, saying that both had a track record in administering the country and ensuring racial harmony.

Urging Malaysians to reject the politics of hate and slander, he called for a new beginning in a “post-Covid-19 new normal world”.

“I’m confident our experiences have made us more mature and rational in determining the direction of the country for the future generation, ” he said.

Talk of an impending GE15 cropped up again after an Umno supreme council meeting was held in Janda Baik, Pahang, last Friday.
