Sitiawan hostel put under EMCO until March 10

PUTRAJAYA: The Centennial Hostel in Kampung Acheh in Sitiawan, Perak, will be placed under an enhanced movement control order from today after a sudden spike in the number of Covid-19 cases there.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) said as at Feb 21, health authorities had screened 349 people with 125 testing positive.

He said the Health Ministry also confirmed that the infectivity rate at the locality was high.

“A risk assessment was carried out by the MCO technical committee and on advice from the ministry, the government has decided to place the locality under an enhanced MCO for 14 days until March 10, ” he said in a statement.

Ismail Sabri said the move would enable health authorities to carry out targeted screenings on residents.

He said under the mandatory Covid-19 screening policy, another 37 foreign workers tested positive.

The results were from screenings carried out on 15,997 people on Tuesday.

So far, 474,916 foreign workers have been tested, involving 24,050 employers.

Cumulatively, 15,960 workers were found to be positive for Covid-19 since the mandatory screening was imposed on foreign workers late last year.
