SUNGAI BULOH: Police have crippled a motorcycle theft syndicate, which sold the stolen machines to foreigners for between RM500 and RM1,000 each, with the arrest of 14 men and two women.
Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Shafaaton Abu Bakar said police were alerted on Jan 8 after receiving a report on the theft of a Honda EX-5 from the parking area of an apartment building in Rawang.
"The victim checked the guardhouse CCTV and found that his motorcycle was stolen by an unknown man at around 8.15pm that day.
"We investigated the case and conducted a series of raids in Hulu Langat, Sungai Buloh and Rawang, and arrested 14 local men, two local women and an Indonesian man," she told reporters on Thursday (Feb 25).
She said police also seized five motorcycles, five motorcycle frames, an engine block, and parts worth RM30,000.
"We have linked the group to 15 cases in Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Dang Wangi and Cheras.
"Nine of the suspects tested positive for drugs," she said, adding that the Indonesian man arrested was a potential buyer for one of the stolen motorcycles.
