PETALING JAYA: Umno will hold its 2020 annual general assembly on March 27 and 28 this year, says party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
The dates were decided by the party’s supreme council.
“The 2020 annual general assembly will be a combination of physical and virtual meetings, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
The Umno general assembly was initially scheduled for Dec 6 and 7 last year, but was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
On Jan 7, the party’s information chief Shahril Hamdan said that the supreme council decided that a motion to sever ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and a move to consolidate its cooperation with PAS will be discussed at the general assembly.
He added the discussion was to ensure that the motions were refined and finalised at the highest level of the party leadership, as provided for in the Umno constitution.
Apart from the two motions, the Umno division-level meeting proposed that the 15th General Election should be held before the end of the first quarter of this year, to enable for a new mandate to be returned to the people.
On the general assembly, Ahmad said the party will make sure that all Covid-19 standard operating procedures will be strictly complied with.
He said various activities have been prepared for the party’s 75th anniversary celebration, including a logo-making competition. Those interested to participate can find out more at www.umno-online.my.
