GEORGE TOWN: A fisherman hut was destroyed in a fire at Jalan Gertak Sanggul, Teluk Kumbar on Friday (Feb 19).
However, quick action by villagers and the public prevented the fire from spreading to other houses near the area.
Balik Pulau Fire and Rescue Department operation officer Mohd Farid Idris said the department received a distress call about the incident at 10.37am.
"We arrived at the scene 20 minutes later and saw a hut razed in the blaze," he said.
Mohd Farid said a team of firefighters involving 30 personnel from the Balik Pulau, Seri and Bayan Baru stations were deployed to the scene.
He said the narrow access to the area complicated efforts to extinguish the fire.
He, however, said the fire was contained at about 11am and no casualties or injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
