Sepang cops seize 240kg of ketum, nab nine in raid

SEPANG: It’s only the second month into 2021 and the Sepang police have already seized 240kg of ketum leaves from a syndicate here.

They also confiscated 228 litres of bottled ketum and arrested nine suspects, including a foreign woman, following a raid at three terrace houses in Putra Perdana on Feb 15.

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said they put the syndicate under surveillance for three weeks before carrying out the raid at around 11pm.

“We seized ketum leaves and liquid ketum worth about RM12,600 as well as RM12,325 in cash.

“Our investigations revealed that the syndicate had been active for over two months and used these houses as processing centres, ” he told reporters at the Sepang police headquarters yesterday.

The suspects, he said, would receive their orders via the phone and sold their products, including each bottle of liquid ketum for RM20, from the houses.

“The mastermind, a man in his 30s, was among those arrested. We believe that the syndicate was getting its supply from the north, ” he added.

Also seized were three stoves and several pots, believed to have been used to boil the ketum leaves.
