SPAN investigates 19 drums


PETALING JAYA: The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) is investigating the presence of 19 drums of scheduled waste found at a vacant premises close to the banks of Sungai Langat in Taman Reko in Kajang.SPAN enforcement officers found 13 160-litre capacity drums and six five-litre capacity drums containing solvents on Tuesday, which they said were not properly managed.

“This could potentially pollute the river and if that happens, the owner of the premises could face a fine of up to RM100,000, a year’s jail or both, ” the commission said.SPAN said the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) will also be investigating the premises, which is situated on river reserve land, as it is also believed to be operating without a valid licence.
