KUCHING (Bernama): Serian is the third district in Sarawak to be hit by the third wave of floods when 55 residents in two villages had to be evacuated since Wednesday (Feb 4) afternoon, bringing the total number of evacuees in the state to 140 people.
According to a report by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, 32 of the flood victims in the district are from six families in Kampung Slabi Entukuh, about 70km from Kuching city, and they are being accommodated at a relief centre in a community hall in the village.
There were also 23 victims, comprising five families, who were evacuated from Kampung Melayu Tebakang Serian, about 72km from Kuching, to the relief centre at Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Tebakang, which was opened at 4pm Wednesday.
The remaining flood victims comprise 77 people, involving 27 families from the Kulleh Longhouse, Nanga Embuau, in Song district, about 110km from Sibu, who have been at the relief centre at SK Nanga Embuau since Tuesday (Feb 2), and eight people, comprising two families, from Kampung Dagang Tatau, who are at the relief centre at Tatau Sports Hall, in the Tatau district, about 60km from Bintulu town. - Bernama
