Annual lighting ceremony goes online

GEORGE TOWN: The annual Kek Lok Si Temple lighting ceremony will be held via Facebook Live this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Temple trustee Datuk Seri Steven Ooi said the public could still enjoy the amazing and beautiful ceremony at 7pm this Sunday.

“The ceremony will be different from previous years due to the pandemic.

“The temple will be closed to the public. Please watch the ceremony live via from the comfort of your home to help contain the virus.

“The 130-year-old monastery will still be illuminated all the way up to the 33.6m-tall Kuan Yin statue and pavilion temple from Feb 7 to March 11, ” he said in a press

conference at Vege Cafe at the Kek Lok Si Charitable Medical Centre in Ayer Itam yesterday.

Ooi said the annual Chinese New Year dinner has also been cancelled.
