‘Track deaths of pygmy elephants so that culprits can be arrested’

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Wildlife Department should set up a website on the deaths of Bornean pygmy elephants so that the public can provide information leading to the arrest of those who had harmed the endangered animals, says a conservation group.

The soon to be formed RESPonsible Elephant Conservation Trust (Respect) made this suggestion amid growing public outrage over the killings that included the butchering of an elephant in Sabah’s central Tongod district.

“We are calling for a website that can furnish information on cases of elephant deaths, locations of deaths and offers of rewards, if any, for anyone with information leading to the arrests of the culprits, ” its chairman Alexander Yee said.
