50-year-old dad of newborn dies in factory canteen, no links to Covid-19, say cops

ALOR GAJAH: A 50-year-old father of a newborn collapsed and died at a factory here, but his death is not due to Covid-19, say police.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the deceased, identified as Tan Mei Leong from Batu Berendam, had collapsed while dining at his factory's canteen at 6.15pm on Thursday (Jan 28).

"Post-mortem examination showed that he had died of heart failure," he said on Friday (Jan 29).

He said the case has been classified as sudden death.

Supt Arshad said the deceased had visited his wife who delivered a baby boy last month at a hospital in Batu Pahat, Johor.

Supt Arshad added that the deceased couldn't return to Batu Pahat to visit his wife and son due to the ongoing movement control order.

Earlier, speculation emerged that the sudden death at the factory was allegedly due to Covid-19.
