Cops arrest man over armed robbery at Bandar Putra Kulai

KULAI: Police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery case at Bandar Putra Kulai here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said that the arrest was made following a police report from a 32-year-old man at about 11.30am on Tuesday (Jan 26).

“The robbery took place on Monday (Jan 25) at about 9.30pm where the suspect and another man, approached the victim and pointed a knife to his neck. They then demanded that he hand over his belongings to them.

“The victim was then brought to a house at Jalan Merbau 18, Bandar Putra Kulai, where the suspects hit him on his body and head until he lost consciousness, ” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Jan 27).

Supt Tok added that the victim woke up the following day at about 8.30am.

"The victim managed to run away from the house and lodge a police report. The victim then led a police team back to the house where the 23-year-old suspect was arrested, ” he said, adding that the suspect's accomplice is still at large and that police are on the hunt.

Supt Tok also said that police confiscated a mobile phone that belongs to the victim, a knife and a 30cm meat cleaver.

“The suspect has confessed to being involved in the case. The investigation also revealed that he also has two prior cases in his criminal record, ” he said adding that the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine.

Supt Tok said that the suspect is currently under remand for six days from Jan 27 until Feb 1 and that the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.
