ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 28-year-old man has been picked up by police for possessing firearms during a raid at a house in Taman Pulai Indah here.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspect was arrested on Sunday (Jan 24) at 8.10pm.
“The police have confiscated one airsoft-rifle, a gun and four bullets.
“Background checks also revealed that the suspect has a prior criminal record involving drugs, ” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Jan 26).
He added that the suspect also tested positive for drugs and was currently under remand for seven days until Jan 31.
ACP Dzulkhairi also said that police were currently on the hunt for the suspect’s accomplice, known as Mohd Rahmin Ahmat, or by his nickname ‘Ramen’.
“The 33-year-old suspect's last known address is at Jalan Pengkalan Rinting, Batu 5, Tampoi, ” he said, adding that those who have information can come forward to any nearest police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms Act (Heavier Penalty) 1971 for unlawful possession of a firearm which carries a maximum jail sentence of 14 years and also liable to be given six strokes of the cane upon conviction.
It is also being investigated under Section Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing imitation firearms, which carries a year prison term or up to RM50,000 fine, or both if convicted.
