PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,585 new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday (Jan 26).
This takes the country’s Covid-19 tally up to 190,434.
Eleven people also died due to the coronavirus, bringing Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll to the 700 mark.
The total number of recoveries is now 149,160 or 78.3%.
The number of people with active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia has gone down to 40,574.
Currently, 280 patients are in intensive care, with 111 requiring ventilator support.
This is the fourth day in a row that recoveries are more than new cases.
Two of the country’s new cases are imported infections, while the rest are local transmissions.
Selangor’s daily case figure is the highest with 1,295 infections, or 36.1% of the country’s total.
“From Selangor’s total, 948 or 73.2% of the cases were uncovered from infection clusters as well as contact tracing activities,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
After Selangor, other states with high figures are Kuala Lumpur (610 cases), Johor (516), Sabah (303) and Sarawak (205).
There are 59 new cases reported from prison and detention centre clusters, which is about 1.6% of Tuesday’s total.
On the death cases, Dr Noor Hisham said four were in Kuala Lumpur, three in Sarawak and one each in Perak, Johor, Selangor and Penang.
All but one are Malaysian nationals, and they are aged between 42 and 92.
Those who succumbed mostly suffered from comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.
Two deaths - a 42-year-old Malaysian man at the Penang Hospital and a 54-year-old foreign woman at Kuala Lumpur Hospital - have been classified as “dead on arrival” cases.
