NCID office in Penang razed by fire

GEORGE TOWN: A portion of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) office at the north-east district police headquarters was razed in a fire Monday (Jan 25) morning, says Penang Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 chief Muhammad Tarmizi Md Jaafar.

He said the department received a distress call on the fire at about 7.55am Monday.

He said firemen from Jalan Perak, Beach Street and Paya Terubong stations rushed to the scene and found the rooms on level four on fire.

"The fire damaged about 40% of the area, where files, computers, office equipment as well as a collection of photos were destroyed," he said.

It took firemen about 15 minutes to put the fire under control and no victims were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
