SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has rubbished an online portal report which said the Umno supreme council had endorsed him as its candidate for Prime Minister in the next general election.
The Umno deputy president said the news was fake.
"Please be informed that the report is fake.
"Fake news seems to spread faster than the Covid-19 virus. Be careful," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Jan 24).
The article claimed Mohamad will be Muafakat Nasional's choice for PM after the majority of the Umno supreme council members supported him for the post.
It said Mohamad's recent announcement that he would contest the Rembau parliamentary seat was testament to the fact that he was moving up to the federal level.
Mohamad is now into his fourth term as Rantau assemblyman.
The report said Mohamad was also seen as a clean leader, was not involved in any cases before the courts, a good orator, approachable and a party loyalist.
It said Mohamad was also hugely popular as he was instrumental in helping stabilise Umno after the party lost power in the last general election.
