PETALING JAYA: The enhanced movement control order will be enforced at the Bentong Prison and its staff quarters from Monday (Jan 25) until Feb 8 after recording over 600 Covid-19 cases, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"The Health Ministry reported an increase in cases at the Bentong Prison complex. To date, 615 positive cases were detected involving 574 inmates, 34 staff members and five of the staff family members," said the Senior Minister in a statement on Sunday (Jan 24).
He said the Health Ministry noted that the spike in cases at the prison complex had occurred in a short space of time.
"Based on the advice and the risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the government agreed to implement the enhanced MCO at the Bentong Prison and staff quarters beginning Jan 25 to Feb 8," he added.
On a separate matter, Ismail Sabri said that 6,894 foreign workers underwent Covid-19 screening on Saturday (Jan 23) where 154 tested positive for the virus.
As of Dec 1, a total of 205,316 foreign workers had undergone screening involving 7,852 companies, of which 4,096 workers tested positive.
The government announced the extension of the MCO until Feb 4 for all states except Sarawak.
The MCO was implemented on Jan 13 but was extended due to a spike in Covid-19 cases.
