PUTRAJAYA: Enhanced movement control order has been imposed on detention blocks as well as staff quarters at the Pekan Nenas Immigration detention depot in Pontian, Johor.
The enhanced MCO starts today following an increase in Covid-19 cases at the facility.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said as of Thursday, health authorities carried out 360 screen tests of which 177 were Covid-19 positive.
“Following the advice of the Health Ministry, the National Security Council (NSC) special meeting agreed to enforce enhanced MCO at this locality from until Feb 5, ” he said.
He said the NSC was informed that 84 of 5,819 foreign workers screened for Covid-19 on Thursday were positive.
Cumulatively, 190,429 foreign workers had been screened since Jan 1 and 3,739 had tested positive.
The government has ordered all foreign workers especially those in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan be screened for Covid-19 beginning Jan 1.
On enforcement activities, police arrested 228 individuals for not wearing face masks while out in crowded public areas, he said.
They were among 660 individuals who were arrested on Thursday for breaching standard operating procedure.
Other SOP violations included not registering customer details (121), no physical distancing (96), interstate travel without permission (54) and premises operating beyond permitted hours (63).
