PETALING JAYA: The Opposition, including DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, should respect the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to declare a state of emergency, which is in line with the Federal Constitution.
MCA Youth's Civil Society Movement Coordination Bureau chief Heng Zhi Li said Lim should nominate himself as a panellist in the Independent Special Committee on the Emergency if he really wanted to contribute.
He said Lim would then be able to assist the nation and contribute solutions to lower the number of positive Covid-19 cases.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced that they intended to legally challenge the Emergency proclamation and also called on MPs to appeal to the King to review his decision.
Lim has since supported calls for a special parliament sitting on the Covid-19 pandemic during the state of emergency.
On Tuesday (Jan 12), the King had decreed for the Emergency until Aug 1 or earlier if the number of Covid-19 cases could be effectively cut down and controlled.
Heng also expressed his disappointment at some MPs who were pushing for the state of emergency to be lifted, or for calling for the Dewan Rakyat to convene during this period.
He said Lim, the Iskandar Puteri MP, was one of the MPs who had mooted for Parliament to reconvene as scheduled.
Heng also noted that several Cabinet Ministers had tested positive for the virus.
"Our Bureau implores the Opposition to respect the decision of His Majesty which was made in line with the Federal Constitution. The most important thing which the public desires is to flatten the curve of the Covid-19 spread and for the economy to be revitalised so that as early as possible, people may return life as usual as it once was," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 20).
