Furniture storage facility razed in Muar fire

MUAR: A furniture storage facility was destroyed and two other nearby buildings gutted after a fire broke out at Kampung Parit Tiram in Jalan Bakri here.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the fire started at the furniture storage facility and caused 90% of its structure to be burnt.

“The fire then spread to the metal storage building on the right side and another furniture storage behind it, destroying 60% and 50% of the buildings, ” said the department's Muar operation commander Jefri Jamal.

The three semi-permanent storage facilities are connected to one another.

Jefri added that a futsal court nearby was also slightly gutted.

The department, he said, had received a distress call at 4.38pm on Tuesday (Jan 19) and deployed 37 personnel from Muar and Bukit Gambir to the location.

"We managed to bring the blaze under control at about 6.40pm," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 20).

There were no casualties in the incident and the total cost of damage and cause of fire are still under investigation.
