PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,631 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Jan 19), taking the total number of cases in the country up to 165,371.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) also said 14 people had also died to Covid-19 in the past 24-hours.
The country’s Covid-19 death toll is now 619.

In the same 24-hour span, 2,944 Covid-19 patients were discharged.
A total of 125,288 people in the country have recovered from the coronavirus since the pandemic began.
Nationwide, there are currently 39,464 active cases that are being treated at hospitals and quarantine centres.
Dr Noor Hisham said 238 patients are in intensive care, with 96 requiring ventilator support.
He said seven of Tuesday’s cases were imported infections, while the rest were local transmissions.
For the locally transmitted cases, 2,754 involve Malaysians while 870 are foreigners.
The states with the highest number of new cases are Selangor (1,199 cases), Sabah (526) Kuala Lumpur (521) and Johor (368).

There are 310 new cases reported from prison and detention centre clusters, which is about 8.5% of Tuesday’s total.
On the 14 deaths, Dr Noor Hisham said seven were in Selangor, two in Johor and one each in Perak, Kedah, Kelantan, Sarawak and Labuan.
Those who died were aged 46 to 85 and mostly suffered from comorbidities such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
