VILLAGERS in Tamil Nadu, India, who went to the rescue of a baby boy being taken away by a stray dog, were shocked to find that he had been mauled to death, Makkal Osai reported.

The villagers in Kadalur district spotted the dog clutching what appeared to be a small infant in its mouth.

Villagers threw stones at the dog, hoping to get it to let go of the baby.

It eventually dropped the baby in a bush and ran off.

The villagers were distraught to discover that the baby had died. His umbilical cord was still attached to the body.

One of the boy’s hands had been badly bitten.

Police recovered the body and found that it was covered in bite marks.

The incident has rocked the village.
