PETALING JAYA: Authorities detained 65 illegal immigrants under Op Benteng as enforcement agencies intensify efforts to secure the nation’s border during the movement control order period.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) said authorities conducted 444 roadblocks nationwide and seized four vehicles, on Friday.
“We will take stern action on anyone trying to enter the country illegally, ” he said.
“Enforcement agencies will tighten security at the border, especially at lorong tikus (illegal routes).”
Ismail Sabri also said a construction site was ordered to close after it failed to follow standard operating procedure (SOP).
“Inspections were carried out at 22 construction sites nationwide with 17 of them complying to the SOP, ” he said.
The minister said 8,588 people were currently undergoing quarantine at hotels and public training institutes after returning from abroad.
Between July 24 last year and Jan 15,105,603 people have returned home from 37 countries.
Meanwhile, a total of 472 people have been arrested for breaking MCO guidelines.
“Compounds were issued to 457 people while 15 others were remanded.
“Among the violations were, not wearing face masks (182), failing to prepare tools to record customers’ details at the premises (85), outlets operating beyond the stipulated hours or without permits (66), not maintaining physical distancing (65) and travelling interstate or inter-district without permission (32), ” he said.
